Take Care of Yourself

It has been a very long time since I have used my blog! I have had topics, but just did not feel like those topics were something that would be worth it. I think I have found a topic that is worth sharing and hopefully it will have an impact on someone! Everyone should take care of themselves.

From a brief history standpoint…

1. I have done everything in my power not to have to go to the doctor. I have taken things to the extreme and had made matters worse. I never used to take the preventive maintenance routes to my health.

2. I started to feel not well. My wife asked me to take a blood test (of which she went as far as to get the orders for me). All I had to do was fast and go get my blood drawn. I did that.. The results were not good.

3. I started down the path of really doing something about those results. I am on meds that I have never had to take before. I decided to make life style changes to get my health under control. The results on these have been pretty solid. I have lost over 40 pounds. My blood pressure and sugar is definitely in the good range.

I did have one particular area that was a concern, that I needed to get more information on and hopefully an answer on. My PSA number was way high. My primary doctor advised me to get to an Urologist ASAP. Again, my pride or stubbornness toward going to doctors hit me square in the face. I reluctantly decided to go forward. After many visits, many tests and some definite uncomfortable moments – the answer was I have prostate cancer. My particular prostate cancer was at a level that needed to be addressed. No wait and see for me.

Like everything, I got deep into the what are my options and what would be best for me and my family. Gathering all my information from the experts. Did plenty of reading. Spent time discussing what others have done. Gather up that information, I made a decision – I chose to have surgery. I am currently almost 3 weeks out from surgery and am healing! The cancer is gone! I do not have (at this time) cancer in my body!

What I am asking for every person that is getting older and getting close to 50! Please make sure that you have you PSA levels checked! Then listen to what the results and your doctor tell you. Don’t be like me and be stubborn about the preventive maintenance aspects of your health.

If one person does this – I would be extremely happy! We all have to take care of ourselves.
