Today was a special day for me! I really wanted to post my series on “My Days as a Security High School Security Guard,” but was asked not to do it – as it was not a good idea from my employer. I totally understand their intial reaction to why it maybe a bad idea. Today is something special that needs to be shared.
I was approached by a student early in the year when she saw me in the position. She asked me, “what helped me get me to where I am today?” I shared with her my early experiences of spending 20+ years working with Intel. Spending my college years at New Mexico Military Institute. Pretty much sharing with her, my family did not have much money and I did what I did because of I thought it was the best options. I told her that you have to have a plan and develop your plan based on what is available. Sit down and write a pros and cons of options – and make your plans based on your all the information you have gathered.
She came to me later that she has made a decision that she was going to go into the military. I asked her how she made her decision… She communicated to me that she took my advice to look at her options available to her and that was her best option. I asked her, “did you look at all of the pros and cons?” She shared with me – she did and her decision was based on my advice and the data she had gathered – with her research and her family.
Months have passed… She told me today that she was moving forward with her signing. She also shared that she will be signing this month! She asked me today if I would attend her signing!
I am totalling honored! She made my day! The only thing I wanted to do with me taking this job was to have a positive impact on students.
