New Series: My Days as a High School Security Guard

I have stepped back into the full-time employment space again. I am doing something completely different than most everything that I have done. I am a high school security guard. The only experience that I can draw on is my time in the military as a military police officer – it gave me a starting point. For everything else – I am drawing on my ability to listen, learn and react from my heart. We are now finishing up our winter break… So, I have about five months of time under my belt.

I am going to start off this series with some basic facts!

  1. Average over 20K steps a day! My highest day of record is over 40K steps…
  2. Get to see about 4K students each day. Especially those days that I get to work in the café for all 3 lunch periods.
  3. Get to work for the largest high school in the state, Hamilton.
  4. It’s the same high school that both of my kids graduated from. My daughter opened the school 20 years ago. She was in the very first graduating class! My son followed and graduated 4 years later. I now cast a shadow in the same hallways they walked in. How cool is that?
  5. The job is just not during the school day. There is lots of “other” stuff that sometimes makes your day over 16 hours long!
  6. There is always something new and exciting happening. I plan on spending more time on this in future posts. Call them stories, experiences or just plain fun…

If there is something that you want to read – let me know. I will answer your questions as best that I can. I hope you enjoy reading the series…
