New Series Coming!

It has been over six months since I have written anything in my blog. I was struggling with what to write about! Call it writers block. Call it being unhappy with what I was producing. Maybe I was being too negative about almost everything. I have not changed my views about our current administration. I look at the current environment (and those that I believed would help – that have now left the administration) and feel that we still are in trouble. Enough about that…

I am back! I have been toying with the idea of writing a new series…

For those that don’t know or maybe this is a reminder for those that do know! I have decided to get back into full-time employment. I did not want to go back to doing what I have always done. I wanted to do something that I truly believe that I am giving back. I have done some volunteer work for many different organizations. I felt like I was helping but was I truly giving back? In some way, I think I was. This way I know that I am – I am right at the source. Another reason… It’s nice that I get health insurance that does not cost me through the nose for crappy coverage. Suspense over – I am now employed by a school district, working in a high school as a security guard. Not just any school district and high school – but the same district and high school that my kids graduated from. I am now casting a shadow in the same halls my kids walked many years ago.

I truly like doing the job! I have met some incredible young people. They make me laugh. They aren’t afraid to ask questions that truly make me think. They aren’t afraid to challenge me. I wanted to give back and I feel that I am doing just that. I spend lots of time listening and only offering words when they want it.

Many of you know that my wife teaches elementary school. She is my hero – after doing this job for half the school year – she will always be my hero! I just hope that I can make an impact on a few of the students like she has done to hundreds and thousands.

I have a few details to work out with my employer before I start writing my series! I am hoping that I can share stories, experiences and thoughts from My Life In High School Security! The public education side…
