Many have noticed that I have become more active in voicing my thoughts about our political landscape over the past couple of years. I have participated in the #RedforEd activities at the AZ Capital. I have continued to challenge the actions, words and false statements of many of our political leadership (leadership by title only).
Now for the disclaimers: I was raised a conservative. I was a Republican most of my life. I decided that I would change my party affiliation from Republican to Independent. The GOP was going a direction that was not consisted with my views. They decided to swing to the far right and abandon the people side of things. I have voted for GOP candidates since leaving the party. I voted for those that I thought would do met my views more closely. It is becoming harder and harder to fine any GOP candidate that is even remotely close.
Our last Presidential election, I came to the realization that our two party system is definitely a big issue with our country today. It wasn’t like this hasn’t been coming for quite sometime, but the problem is very noticeable now. We have had a divide that has been growing for quite sometime, but it grows each and everyday. There are families that are so divided that they don’t want to acknowledge each other. We need to have a complete overhaul of our voting system. We can not let the two party system continue to be the only choices. Both parties are not working together! They are not willing to work together. They like to be on the far end of the reality. If nothing is done, this is one of my fears. For me, my family and my grandkids!
We currently have a President that is far from presidential. For many that support him, they love the fact that he tells it like he sees it. Of course, that comes with name calling, toddler like behavior and doing everything in his power to push his authoritarian agenda. He is dismantling our democracy. He attacks the news outlets that he does not like as “Fake News,” while supporting one news outlet that gives him over the top atta boys for what he is doing. They feed his ego! He believes he is the smartest guy in the room in every situation. Which we all know, he has made more than a few blunders along the way. He is never truly prepared, as he will not listen to anyone. He attacks anyone that does not support him. His name calling of other leaders is just another way of him pushing flexing his bully mentality onto others. When called out about it, he just tweets (name calling and finger pointing) and stretching the truth along the way. He lies almost daily (ok not almost)! When fact checked he just spins it to his agenda. He attacked our allies! He has better relationships with dictators. Wants to defund Planned Parenthood and reverse our abortion laws – all while defunding everything that is needed to help raise those kids. Human rights are limited in his view. The actions taken with those attempting to gain asylum or cross the border – speak loudly. There are more – much more. It is easy to say that he twisted everything everyday to center around him and what he thinks and wants. He is not representing the American people. He is representing his rich friends and insuring that he keeps his friends and reality stars happy.
I have always been a loyal American when it comes to whoever is in the office of President. I can not sit back and be complicit of what is happening today. That truly is my biggest fear. People are becoming numb to everything that is going on. Tax Reform gave many people a piece of hope. Money can wash away some stink. When you look deeper, corporation passed on a token to some workers and customers. The top 1% got significantly richer, while many others got a bone thrown their way. Trade tariffs have eaten away that bone as gas prices and cost of goods has increased. Nobody seems to see that as a problem. His last week has been a snapshot into what really is happening. Attack our allies, when you leave early from a summit to race to meet with a dictator that played him.
Welcome to the new America – an American authoritarian kleptocracy, backed by millionaire white nationalists both in the United States and abroad, meant to strip our country down for parts, often using ethnic violence to do so. We have the opportunity to stand up and change the situation. We have mid term elections and we need to make sure that we elect candidates that will stand up to the insanity and make our government work again. We need to send a message period.
