Simple Social Experiment

31141395_sWhere is this world going? Or where has it gone? Recently, I have been putting my two cents worth in on a couple of topics I really don’t spend calories on. Not that I intended this to be a social experiment when I posted, but it has definitely demonstrated something to me.

Here it goes…

  1. I posted on my personal Facebook page a simple status update that centered on the bathroom storms about opening them up to whichever gender you relate to. I simply said can we move on from this. Use whatever one you want. Go in, look straight ahead, do your business, wash your hands and get out. Simple. The reactions to this where many. I got a lot of likes, comments that were similar and the storm of hate for the change.
  2. The other day, I posted if I was running for office in my blog, twitter, LinkedIn, professional Facebook and personal Facebook page. A larger audience – so to speak! The response so far – just a couple of likes and some emails. This post centered on true issues – government spending, term limits, taxes, jobs, immigration and health care. Probably the top issues for everyone!

What I learned…

  • How bathrooms can be a storm of conversation. Having to put in place potential rules around who can use what bathroom. Really? How people turn ugly at the sign of anything the President says or does. How states are now suing over the mandate in school for have gender neutral bathrooms. This is more important than jobs, government spending, health care? How can that be?
  • Anger is all around. Whenever anger is involved it is big, really big. Social media has a way to turn anger into going viral. How many meme’s have you seen on the bathroom situation? Compare that to number to the jobs meme’s?
  • This coming election will not be about the real issues. It is going to be about reversing everything good or not so good, but moving in a forward direction that President Obama has done. Why? Because of anger. Let’s not talk about what needs to be done to move forward. Let’s undo everything and start over with something that may or may not be better. How about we spend some time taking the steps that have been done and making them better. I know most of us have heard, “don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.” Well, it seems we are maybe going that way.

One thing that time has proven – anger people usually make very bad decisions. Think back to a time that you were really angry. Did you really see both sides? Did you say something that you later regretted? Make a decision to leave or quit? Were any of them the best decision you could have done?

I was thinking of running another personal Facebook post only about gun control! I have a feeling that this will invoke much more response as well. Bathrooms and guns are more important the our economy, jobs, government spending and so on…. At least that is how I take it!
