The Times They Are A Changing

I am a Bob Dylan fan! Have been since I was in high school. His song, The Times They Are A-Changing  is probably more in your face now than ever before. Or maybe, it is that I am getting older and changing faster than most.

The past two weeks I have been raking my brain to figure out what I wanted to post about. I was debating to stand up and yell from the roof top how disgusted I am with everything that is going on. My daughter pointed out that being negative about the situations is not very productive. She is totally right! I was in that funk of being sucked into the negativity.

Well, not this time…

I have a story to tell… The other day, I was out shopping and was approached by a person. I guess he must have thought I worked there, as he asked me where something was. I politely said, “I am not sure. I don’t work here.” This started up a conversation…

He introduced himself. For the blog post, I will call him – “Tom”

Tom looked at me and said, “how about what is happening in the world today?” “You got shootings, mass shootings, we are in an election year, craziness everywhere you turn.”

I just said, “plenty of craziness.”

Tom started to speak about his support of Trump and how he will make America Great Again. This was not the first time a complete stranger was open to discuss this topic with me. Maybe I look like a supporter…

In the past, I just nodded my head and let that topic die. Today, I was not in the head nodding mood. I asked, “what are those plans and how are they really going to work?”

Tom started to talk in circles. Told me we will get a wall at our border. We will keep the crazies out. He mentioned that there is no way in hell he would vote for Hillary Clinton.

I asked Tom, “are you voting for Trump and his plans or are you voting because you don’t want Clinton in.”

He said, “I don’t want Hillary in office. She is a liar and is brought and paid for. Trump is not.”

I could have pointed out that when fact checkers check statements, Trump lies more than any. I did not! Trying to stay positive… I asked Tom, “do you know there are more candidates than Trump and Clinton?”

He pointed out that really there is only two parties. Any other candidates don’t have a chance of winning.

I decided that this was my opportunity to educate Tom. So, I told him about Garry Johnson and what he stands for. Tom was impressed, but still standing on the platform that he does not want Clinton elected. I said, “wouldn’t it be nice to vote for someone that you think can do the job, rather than vote against a candidate?”

He looked at me puzzled. I told him, “do research, learn more and become an educated voter. It maybe time for a real change.”

Taking my own words to heart. I have done something that I have never done before. I decided that I want to volunteer for Garry Johnson. I went out to the website and volunteered! It is time for change.
