Being a Good Person is a Great Start

When I was working for that Fortune 50 company, I had some incredible experiences with some amazing people… Since then, I have done some consulting to add to my experiences and it was with some incredible people. I have done some part-time work with other companies and the people really make or break those experiences. I go into each opportunity as just that an opportunity to learn and grow as an individual.

Has everything been perfect? Nope. In some cases it has been a mess…

What I have learned so far…

1. The people are what stands out! I spent almost 29 years with the Fortune 50 company and have been away since early 2011. I still get to hear from many of my past employees. They reach out and send me emails or direct messages to see what is up. The one thing I truly enjoy is hearing how they are doing… As a manager, I enjoyed my time getting to know them, building a working relationship that was built on trust and just watching them succeed. Their follow-up to me is truly a reflection of how well that went.

2. Being a good person starts the ball rolling in the right direction. I don’t mean a well intention type person. I mean a true down to earth, honest and hard working person. One that has a strong foundation and wants nothing more than to succeed. I have witness those folks throughout all of my experiences. When I spot that person, I want to be around that person. I want to help that person in any way that I can.

3. I like to think that I am some pretty good people watching skills and can spot a fake quickly. Those are the folks that we hear about that maybe in leadership positions today that everyone leaves their team. I have had a couple of those managers throughout my experiences. They make it tough to get excited to go to work. The work environment is just not a good place to be. I also try my best to look for the positives in everyone, so I may give the person my of a chance to prove themselves. I don’t want to be wrong with my first impression. (and no I don’t keep my first impression in the forefront of my mind)…

People, good people are all around you. Take the time to surround yourself with those folks. Life will be much better off with them.
