Thursday’s Thought

Today’s thought comes from a place that I have spent a lot of time learning, practicing and teaching – leadership. It means a lot to different people.

“I suppose leadership at one time meant muscles; but today it means getting along with people” – Mahatma Gandhi

When we are all out looking for a leader to follow (or be that leader that we want people to follow), there are some basic traits that we want to see or have. We want a leader that is authentic, inspiring, transparent, real and most of all, one that never is afraid to admit they made a mistake. If you are one of those people! Awesome – I bet you are a darn good leader. If you have that in the leader in your organization – I bet you folks are really successful. I know I have tried throughout my career to insure that I am trying my best to be that type of leader.

Here comes the thought!

All of us US citizens have a vote coming up this November. We have to vote on a President. A “leader” to lead our country. So, why is it that when we have to vote on a leader, we do not take into account the traits that we want in our leaders at work? Why are we just willing to accept less?

My thought is – we are actually afraid to apply those traits to elected officials. Is it that we don’t have those traits in any of the so-called leaders that are up for election? So, we just settle for close. Most people leave their job for what reason? The majority of the time – it is the boss (or so-called leader).

Many commented that we are only presented with the two options. So, we have to pick from that. Definitely suggests that we give in or give up. It is time to demand better. It is time to look past the two options. Many will say, “the system is rigged.” Well, we the people need to call for real change to the rigged system. Voices and actions!

What do you think?
