Seasonal Employment or Not?

37505095_sWe are quickly coming to the holiday seasons! Oh no… I have way too much to do to actually prepare for the holidays. That probably is a post all in its self.

I have been noticing lots of seasonal jobs opening up. Being semi-retired, you have to ask yourself, “should I go ahead and pursue seasonal employment?”

Here are my top 5 answers to that question.

5. Work is better than no work!  Definitely the most obvious reason.. Exciting reason? Probably not. Let’s face facts – the holidays are coming and the extra money will definitely help. Hence it is #5…

4. There is an end date that is real.  Most people are not overly thrilled with knowing that the job is going to end before it starts. For me, I am not worried about it ending. I retired awhile back and find that having a start and an end, helps me with my over plan.

3. It is great practice for interviewing and learning new things.  There is no substitute for getting out and interviewing. You can practice at home with family or friends, but that just does not cut it. The overall setting, the nervous energy and people you don’t know really make interviewing better… Learning new things is much easier when you are in a new environment also.

2. Getting that “foot in the door.”  If you are looking to change your career or are really trying to land that job with the employer of your dreams.. Seasonal work helps you to get in and look around. Demonstrate to them that you are the employee that they need down the road. Once in – you may find out that this may just not be for you.

The number 1 reasonEXPERIENCE!   Adding more tools to your toolbox…

I am excited to have entered the seasonal job market… Looking forward to where this takes me. Can’t really write about something until you have experienced it! Wish me luck…
