Remembrance

I wrote back in September, 2013 about my mother-in-laws husband, Lyle Perkins going on his final mission as a World War II veteran. It was just a little bit short of a year ago. Not a day went by that Lyle did not talk about his experience on that trip. It was one of the happiest memories that he would share with everyone. My family and I were lucky to meet him at the airport upon his return from Washington, DC. He just could not stop talking about the trip and how this was an wonderful experience after all the many years.

His family and ours are extremely sadden that Lyle C. Perkins passed away at the age of 92.

World War II veterans are a national treasure! They are a generation that we are losing very quickly. Below are the latest statistics from the National WWII Museum –

WWII Survivors

For us, we were very lucky to have had time with Lyle to discuss his experiences. He had plenty of stories to share! He was a very strong and proud man. Having served his country in WWII, as a secret service officer, policeman and chief of police – he was all about helping others. For those folks that met him, they knew he loved to tell a joke or two… Everyone was his good friend. He will be missed!

The  Honor Flight Arizona is a member of the national Honor Flight Network. The overall mission of the national network is to “Transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.”  Remember the organization does this for all veterans from donation only… Please think of donating!
