Angry Sports Fans

As many people know, I am a real sports fan. I definitely spend too much time watching, reading or thinking about sports. My wife would say that I am such a fan, that I would watch a reply of a game I have already seen. I am an angry fan right now…

Why?

• Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED’s) – When you look at the past 10 years in baseball it is hard to really know “who” is clean. Yesterday’s announcement of the suspension of Ryan Braun sparked my post today. His actions of the past 2+ years around taking PED’s and finally “attempting” to admit to taking PED’s is all I can take. He lied to fans! He pointed all of the attention to someone that was just trying to do their job. He still has to “really” admit to what he has done. We also had some addition drug policy suspensions in the NFL yesterday as well. Unbelievable…
• Breaking laws – Laws are being broken by all of society.. Why should I call this out with sports? Simple – those players have seen the past examples of law breakers in sports. They know the public eye is on them 24×7. Some of them have the youth of today idolizing them. Why would you put yourself in a situation that is going to break a law? Stand up and do what is right! The NFL off-season has brought plenty of attention to their players. Some will talk it down as the overall percentage of players that are in the NFL and those that are breaking the laws are low. Not me! Anymore than one is too many… 

It seems that this is continuing at an alarming rate when punishments are in place. Why is it continuing? Maybe it is because the punishments are not severe enough. Maybe it is because the fans are not screaming when it happens.

Here’s a thought!

• Suspensions should be longer! Contracts should be voided at the end of the suspension. Let the player have to rework his contract with the current team (if that team wants a cheater or law breaker). If current team wants to pass on a player, then they are a free agent to go to any team. New team is now buyer beware… Is your fan base going to accept a cheater or law breaker? Do you want your team to be known for taking all of the sports misfits? 

If sports and the sports unions want to clean up their sports – then it is time to take the cheaters out for good. This way, there will be no questions about a potential hall of framer – did he or did she?

I want my clean sports back. I am sick and tired of hearing about all the bad stuff that is going on. Let’s demand that from the players, leagues, unions and team ownership…
