Getting Attention for Action!

We all are bombarded with plenty to do. At work this is always something coming up or something new being thrust upon us daily. Add your home life to the mix. We are busy…

One of the ways a leader can insure that his/her message is grabbing attention of the team is to insure the you are follow 4 basic steps.

1. Always start of your message with what is it you want. Provide the most important information up front and simply ask what you need. “Darrin, I need your advice on how we best can roll out this new product.”

2. Set the scene. You have to provide enough information where the team (or individual) can follow along. “To refresh your memory, this new product is launching next Wednesday.”

3. Explain the reason. Everyone needs to understand the why… I can not stress this enough. I have had managers that don’t think this step is important. It is! It is simply the reason as to way you are delivering the message to get their attention! “This deadline is important for insuring that we meet our customers needs.”

4. Always connect the message to the big picture. Why should the audience care? “Our customer satisfaction survey results need to get to 90% or we will miss our bonus for this quarter.”

Remember to keep it short, to the point and always explain the whys and what is in it for the team! Works every-time.
