Retired Guy Series Update

I know it has been a long time since my last update on the Retired Guy Series. I seriously was debating to stop writing on this, but some folks keep asking for updates on what is Steve doing now. So, this maybe the last one I post.

Making changes are something that most folks don’t like to do. I am one that doesn’t go out of my way to make changes, but when I do – I really do. When I was doing my goal setting at the first of the year, I found that I needed to really refocus my priorities and make some changes. Boy, did I go all in on changes…

  • I had stopped some of the volunteering that I was doing. I made a difficult decision to stop volunteering in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters speaker bureau. The organization did a great job of recruiting new speakers, so my stepping out was great timing. I just recently made the decision and finished most of the transition work to remove myself from volunteering at AZ4Education. I am very proud of the work that I did for the organization. The fundraising has increased significantly since I joined and there are some solid fundamentals in place. I am still volunteering on the site council at Haley Elementary – as education is still very important to me.
  • My wife and I live in the house that we raised our kids in. For almost 17 years, we have had a beautiful large house on almost an acre of land. That may not sound like a lot, but when in live in Phoenix, acre lots are not common. Now that we are just two people living in the house, we feel it is time to downsize. This change is going to be really difficult. I have plenty to keep me busy with preparing to sell, buy and move.
  • I have decided that I want to go back into the workplace. I have finally decided to seriously look for employment. I have had lots of fun the past 3 years. I have learned and grown quite a bit with different experiences. I have not landed anything yet, but when I put my mind to something, it will happen, soon.

Will this be the last Retired Guy? I think so. At least until I finally retire.
