I have spent almost all of my adult working for others. US Army, Myron’s Service Center and Intel. Not bad to only have 3 different employers. After almost 29 years with Intel, I decided to retire over a year and a half ago. Retirement has been something that I knew would be tough for me to actually do, right now. So, I started to look to get back to working for someone else again. Had a few offers that just did not fit my passions. Had quite a few that said, you are over qualified for our position. Had a few polite system generated, rejected emails. Had many that just seemed to sit in cyberspace. I decided to do some volunteer work, to keep the mind and body busy. Worked out great! Some of the folks that I worked with asked why not do some consulting work and get paid. After much debate (all with myself), I decided, why not.
I had no clue what was needed and where to go. Lucky for me, I have a few friends that have gone that route and were able to walk me through the process. On Friday, I got all of my paperwork back from the state of Arizona. It is official – I have my own business… SteveBellNow, LLC is officially open for business. I will be doing consulting on many of the experiences that I have gotten over my many years of working for corporate America. For those readers that are already doing this.. I would love to hear from you on your tips to success.
The exciting part of all this is, I already have my first consulting engagement. I will be using my process engineering and IT skills to help a client with some engineering redesign of their RMA process. It starts only 2 days after getting all of the official paperwork. Lucky, hell yes…
I am looking forward to making many improvements to my website over the coming months. With this post, my Retired Guy Series is officially closed (it was too early for that anyways).
